Struve Geodetic Arc, Belarus (UNESCO)


Fantastic postcard sent by Alexandra for the Fast Favourites Tag in Postcrossing.
The Struve Geodedic Arc is a chain of survery triangulations that run 2820 km through 10 countries, from Hammerfest all the way to the Black Sea. The chain was established by Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve (hence the name of this chain) in 1816 - 1855 to establish the exact size and shape of  earth.
Countries that have part of this UNESCO Site (inscribed in 2005): Estonia, Belarus, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Moldova, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine.

Minsk, Belarus



Wonderful view of the upper town of Minsk. In the center is, I believe the orthodox cathedral of the Holy Spirit. Minsk is the capital and largest city of Belarus.
I received this postcard via Postcrossing from Valentine.

Church Fortress of Murowanka, Belarus


This great card came as an official Postcrossing Postcard from Mary. It just says: Fortress Church, 1524. When I googled for the picture, this is what I found out, feel free to correct me if I am wrong with this: The Church Fortress of Murovanka, a masterpiece of Belarusian architecture of that time. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Victory Square, Minsk, Belarus


A great nightview of Victory Square with the Obelisk in Minsk was sent by Ludmila for the Postcrossing UK&Ireland x OC RR. Victory Square is the key landmark of Minsk, a main tourist attraction, newly weds go there to take their wedding picture, holiday parades pass this important site of the city. The Obelisk is crowned with a giant replica of the Order of Victory and at its base is the Sacred Sword of Victory. The monument is dedicated to the soldiers of the Soviet Union and Belarus.

Mir Castle, Belarus (UNESCO)



This great card came as an offcial Postcrossing card from Belarus sent by Ania (BY-215904). It shows the UNESCO Site Mir Castle in the Grodno Area. Construction began in the 15th century and completed in the early 16th century.

Nesvish Castle, Minks, Belarus (UNESCO)



This is Nesvish Castle in Minsk, the capital city of Belarus. It was sent by Marta for the Postcrossing "Just Viewcards RR". It is a UNESCO site, so very welcome to my collection and really nice stamps too.

Owl from Belarus


This wonderful owl was sent to me as an official Postcrossing card by Alena (BY-183261). It lives in the UNESCO World Heritage National Park Białowieża Forest. Where to put the card now, UNESCO collection or Owl collection ... :)
