Struve Geodetic Arc, Belarus (UNESCO)

The Struve Geodedic Arc is a chain of survery triangulations that run 2820 km through 10 countries, from Hammerfest all the way to the Black Sea. The chain was established by Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve (hence the name of this chain) in 1816 - 1855 to establish the exact size and shape of earth.
Countries that have part of this UNESCO Site (inscribed in 2005): Estonia, Belarus, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Moldova, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine.
