Jiufen, Taipei, Taiwan

This wonderful card shows an old street in Jiufen, Teipei.  The city once housed 9 families, who requested 9 portions each time a shipment arrived, thus the name of the city which means translated 9 portions.
It was a rather isolated place until gold was found in the surrounding area iin 1893 which resulted in a gold rush.
A few films were shot in the old streets of the city which added to the popularity.
I received this card from Tseng Yi-Ju for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag.

Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall

The best cards often come unexpectedly :) This one, showing the Democracy Memorial Hall in Taipei came from Rod Eime. Originally the complex was named Chiang kai-shek Memorial Hall but renamed in May 2007 which caused a lot of controversy. So on August 21, 2008 the original name was restored again and in July 2009 also the plaque of Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall was reinstated.
