Tomoko sent me this treasure for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag. It shows the West Pagoda of Yakushiji Temple in Nara, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historical Monuments of Ancient Nara.
Yakushiji is one of the oldest and most famous temples in Japan. It has a strictly symetric layout with two flanking pagodas, the East and West Pagoda. The temple was built by Emperor Tenmo to pray for the recovery of his sick wife.
