Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, Oregon, USA
What a beautiful and dramatic postcard. It was sent by Kori and Aleesa McArthur for the WiP April General Swap. I am totally in love with this one!
Tillamook Rock Light is deactivated and located on less than a acre of basalt rock in the Pacific Ocean. It was first lit on January 21, 1881 after 500 days of construction. Shortly before it was first lit a ship hit the rock and sank, killing all 16 members of crew. Due to frequent bad weather and the difficult approach for keepers and suppliers the lighthouse was nicknamed "Terrible Tilly". In 1957 it was finally decommissioned and sold. It is now privately owned.
