Matterhorn, Switzerland
Great image of the Matterhorn, with 4478 meters one of the highest mountains of the Alps. It is located in Switzerland near the Italian border. A party led by Edward Whymper was the first to ever climb the mountain all the way up to the top. This happened in 1865. It was one of the last Alpine mountains to be mastered but this didn't happen without cost. 4 people of the party died in a fall. The north face of the mountain was first climbed in 1931. The Matterhorn is one of the deadliest mountains in the Alps with over 500 people dead since 1865.
The great card was sent by Vanessa for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag
