Tartu is the second biggest city of Estonia and home to the country's oldest university, founded in 1632. The first permanent settlement dates back to the 5th century AD and it was first mentioned in documents in 1030.
It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Struve Geodedic Arc inscribed in 2005.
