Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague, Czech Republic (UNESCO)



Awesome nightview of the St. Vitus Cathedral and the Prague Castle in the foreground sent by Adéla for a Postcrossing UNESCO Round Robin.
The cathedral is the seat of the archbishop of Prague and was built in gothic style. It is located within the Prague Castle and is the biggest and most important church of the country. The Prague Castle was the seat of the Kings of Bohemia and the Holy Roman Emperors and also the Presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic had their offices there. In a hidden room inside the castle the Bohemian crown jewels are being kept.
The Guinness book of records names Prague Castle as the biggest ancient castle in the world.

Toldeo Azulejo, Spain



My Azulejo collection keeps growing thanks to Anna Bogdanovskaya :)  This time she sent me a beautiful one showing the city of Toledo in central Spain. The city was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1986 for its cultural and monumental heritage and the peaceful coexistence of Christian, Muslim and Jewish religions.

North Shore of Massachusetts, USA



The North Shore is the rocky coastal area  between Boston and New Hampshire. There are several nice beaches and natural harbours but also wetlands and marshes.

Hillsboro Lighthouse, Florida, USA




Hillsboro Light is located between Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton, Florida, marking the northern end of the Florida Reef. It was first lit in 1907 and is now protected by the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society.

Fort Knox, U.S. Bullion Depository, Kentucky, USA

 

The U.S. Bullion Depository is often referred to as Fort Knox. It is in fact a fortified vault adjacent to US army post Fort Knox in Kentucky. The vault holds over 4,500 metric tons of gold, topped only by the depository of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which holds about 7,000 metric tons.

Idrija, Slovenia (UNESCO)



This card arrived here for the WiP Hearts Desire Swap and was sent by Simona Trontelj. It shows the Mercury mine in Idrija. Together with the Mercury mine in Almadén, Spain the two places were inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage Site as Heritage of Mercury.
Mercury (Quicksilver) is a quite rare material and Idrija and Almadén are the two biggest mercury mines in the world.

Canyonlands National Park, Utah, USA



Canyonlands National Park in Utah, great landscape and dramatic rock formations created by thousands of years of erosion.

Rohtas Fort, Jhelum, Pakistan (UNESCO)



A great UNESCO World Heritage Card showing Rohtas Fort in Pakistan, inscribed in 1997. It has naver been taken by storm and has survived the centuries almost completely intact. The monumental walls have bastions and mighty gates and are about 4 km long. It is an exceptional example of muslim military architecture.
The card was sent for a UNESO Round Robin on Postcrossing by Karen. Unfortunately it was sent from Finland instead of the country of origin, but I was happy with it nonetheless :)

The three most famous views in Japan



This card I received from Asami Yokoyama for a Postcrossing Round Robin. It shows Japan's 3 most famous views: Matsushima, a group of 260 tiny islands, below is the Miyajima, Itsukushima Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and on the right Amanohashidate, the Heavenly Bridge, a sandbar located in Miyatsu Bay, in northern Kyoto Prefecture.

Beacon Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, USA



Great card sent by Bonnie Jeanne showing a street scene in Beacon Hill, a historic neighbourhood in Boston. It is famous for its Federal-style rowhouses and narrow, gaslit streets and brick sidewalks.

St. Sophia Church, Sofia, Bulgaria



St. Sophia Church is the second oldest church in Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. It was built in the 6th century and later the city, previously known as Sredets adopted the name. St. Sophia Church is one of the most valuable pieces of early Christian architecture in southeastern Europe.

Chicago Water Tower, Illinois, USA



The Water Tower in Chicago was built in 1869 and is 47 m tall. Inside was a 42 m high standpipe to hold water. The tower was not only used for firefighting but through the pipe it was also used to regulate water surges. Here it is surrounded by a layer of freshly fallen snow and trees decorated with Christmas lights.

National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola, Florida, USA



This lighthouse is located within the National Naval Aviaton Museum at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. A welcome addition to my lighthouse collection sent by Kary Schronski for the WiP Hearts Desire Swap.

Table Rock Lake, Missouri/Arkansas, USA


Table Rock Lake in the Ozark Mountain Country, received its name from the numerous rockledges that are flat as a table surrounding the lake. The Lake was formed by the completion of Table Rock Dam in 1958.

HM King Willem-Alexander and HM Queen Máxima of the Netherlands



My first postcard of Willem-Alexander and Máxima as King and Queen of the Netherlands :) It was sent by Mike Noordam for the WiP May General swap.  I watched some of the inauguration, it was so beautiful. The Dutch can be proud of such a wonderful young royal couple representing their country.

Inventure Place, Inventors Hall of Fame, Akron, Ohio, USA



Inventure Place, the National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio opened on July 23, 1995. The original Inventors Hall of Fame was in Washington D.C. near the Washington National Airport. When the airport needed more room a new place had to be found for the Hall of Fame which was then moved to Akron, Ohio, following an initiative of patent lawyer Edwin "Ned" Oldham from Akron.
