Latvia Mapcard

Colourful mapcard of Latvia, an independent republic in the Baltic region with Riga as its capital and largest city.. On May 1, 2004 Latvia joined the European Union.

Riga, House of Blackheads, Latvia (UNESCO)

This card, sent by Waltraud and Rainer Urbanke, shows the House of Blackheads in the beautiful city of Riga, Latvia. The building was home to the Guild of Unmarried German Merchants.  The original building was almost completely destroyed in a German bombing during WWII and the last remains were finally torn down by the Russians.  It was reconstructed from 1995 - 1999.  The old town of Riga has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
