Alatornio Church, Struve Geodetic Arc, Finland (UNESCO)

The Struve Geodetic Arc counts among the most exact and biggest projects of geodesy at the time. It is named after the German born Russian Scientist Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve. It stretches almost 3.000 km from Hammerfest in Norway all the way to the Black Sea, through 10 countries, thus making it the UNESCO World Heritage Site with the most inscriptions.
Alatornio church, built in 1797 is located in the Finnish province Lapland and makes one of the points of the Struve Geodetic Arc.
Thank you Merja for this beautiful card, arriving here as an official Postcrossing postcard.

Kemi, Finland

Kemi is situated at the Bothnian Bay in the Lapland region of Finland. It was founded by royal decree in 1869 because of its proximity to a deep water harbour.
Each year the famous snow castle is built there with hotel, restaurant and chapel, as can be seen on the card. The architecture varies from year to year.
The great card, which also shows a mapcard of Finland, was sent by Marianna (Elenna) for the Favourites Tag on Postcrossing.
