University of Utrecht, Netherlands

The University of Utrecht was founded in March 1636, which makes it one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands. In the opening year it had an enrollment of 24 students. The card shows the Faculty of Humanity and Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance and is located in the center of Utrecht.

Amsterdam and its Canals, Netherlands (UNESCO)

Obviously I kind of developped a taste for evening views as of late :) This postcard is no exception.
Amsterdam is an absolutely amazing city! It started out in the 12th century as a tiny fishind village and over the centuries developped  into the leading centre for finance and diamonds and one of the most important ports in Europe during the Dutch golden age in 17th century. It is the capital of the Netherlands, the government seat though is in The Hague.
The city has more than 100 kilometers of canals (grachten), 90 islands and 1.500 bridges, which gave Amsterdam the nickname "Venice of the North". The 17th century canal ring with Prinsengracht, Keisersgracht, Herengracht and Jordaan are listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Thank you Mirjam for sending this beautiful card for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag !!!!

"Stad Amsterdam" Tall Ship, Netherlands

On this postcard you see the "Stad Amsterdam", a three-masted clipper, built in 2000 after the design of mid-19th century frigate "Amsterdam" and named after the Dutch capital. There is one major difference to the Amsterdam, though, the hull is made from steel.
Stad Amsterdam is a training ship but can also be hired for private cruises. The card shows her during the tall ship parade "Sail Amsterdam" in 2015 celebrating the ship's 15th anniversary.
Thank you Marjan for sending this interesting card !!!

Rietveld Schröder House, Utrecht, Netherlands (UNESCO)

A unique building in Utrecht, Netherlands. The Rietveld Schröder House was designed by Dutch architect Gerrit Riedveld for Mrs. Truus Schröder-Schräder and her 3 children in the De Stijl style. Mrs. Schröder lived in this house until her death in 1985. It was turned into a museum and is open for visits.
In 2000 it was inscribed into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as "an icon of the Modern Movement in architecture and an outstanding expression of human creative genius in its purity of ideas and concepts as developed by the De Stijl movement."
Thank you Miek for sending this wonderful card for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag and adding a new site to my UNESCO collection.

Goedereede Tower / Lighthouse, Netherlands

The Tower of Goedreede in the Netherlands was originally part of the city's parish church. It was built in 1512. From 1552 til 1912 though, it served as a lighthouse. The once prosperous harbour town went into a decline over the centuries as other ports and harbours were more attractive. The town could no longer support the huge  churchbuilding and it went into decline and had to be pulled down eventually. Only the tower remained. It was restored and is now in use as a museum.
This interesting card was sent by Barbara and Elmar Knieps and is a more than welcome addition to my lighthouse collection.
