Palacio Salvo, Montevideo, Uruguay

My very first card from Uruguay! It shows Palacio Salvo located in the capital city Montevideo. It was designed by Italian born architect Mario Palanti. Construction started in 1925 to be completed only 3 years later. It was intended as a hotel but this plan never succeeded. Originally the building had a lighthouse on top which was soon replaced by an antenna. During that time it counted as South America's tallest building reaching 100 meters. The antenna was permanently removed in November 2012 leaving the palace at a height of now 95 meters. The building how houses various offices and private residences,
Thank you very much Angelica, for adding a new country to my collection with this beautiful card !!!
