Crown Prince Frederik and his wife, Australian born Crown Princess Mary. Mary is wearing the Danish Ruby Parure, which consists of a tiara, a huge necklace, earrings, brooch and a bracelet. Mary added a ring to the set. The history of this parure is quite interesting as it goes back to the days of the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte. He gave quite an amount of money to his marshals so that they could buy fancy jewels for their wifes. The Ruby Parure was bought by Jean Baptiste Bernadotte (who later became king of Sweden) for his Desirée. The Swedish princess Louise brought it to Denmark in 1869 as a wedding gift when she married future King Frederick.
