The
Canal du Midi in Southern France is 241 km long and connects the River Garonne to the Etang de Thau on the Mediterrean Sea. At the time of its construction in the 17th century, it was considered as one of world's greatest constructions.
1996 it was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List.
