Xanten, Northrhine-Westfalia, Germany
The first settlements in the area of Xanten date back to 2000 BC. At about 15 BC the Romans created a military camp in the area, which was later destroyed and then rebuilt in another place close by. Attached to it, a city was founded and inhabited by former legionnaires and named Colonia Ulpia Traiana, after Emperor Marcus Ulpius Traianus, who gave colonia rights to the settlement.
The city of Xanten is famous for the Archeological Park, one of the biggest archeological open air museums of the world, as well as for a beautiful historic city center.
I sent this card myself when visiting this great city.
