Castle Landshut, Bernkastel, Germany
This card I sent myself when visiting the town of Berkastel at the river Moselle. The card shows Castle Landshut (not to confuse with Castle Landshut in Switzerland). It goes back to a Roman castle from the 3rd century. Remains of this Roman castle were recently found by archeologists. The first written word of the castle goes back to the 7th century. It used to be a summer residence of the archbishops of Cologne before it was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1692. In 1920 ownership of the castle ruins was turned back to the town of Bernkastel who spent quite some money to restore the ruin and turn it back into a touristy place again.
