Pilgrimage Church of Wies, Germany (UNESCO)

The Pilgrimage Church of Wies was designed by Dominikus Zimmerman in the late 1740's. Construction began in 1745 and was finished in 1754.  It is an oval rococo church and hosts the wooden figure of the Scourged Saviour that is said to have miraculous powers.
The church was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983. The card was sent by Steffi Knapp for the WiP January General swap.
