Alabama Capitol Building in Montgomery
sent by Gabby Barnes for the World in Postcards Political Swap

Built in the Greek Revival Style in 1850-51, the East wing was added in 1885, the side wings between 1906 and 1912 and the East portico in 1989-92. Jefferson Davis was inaugurated president of the Confederate STates of America beneath all these columns in February 1861, and the building was the provisional seat of the Confederacy for the next three months. In 1965 the historic Selma-to-Montgomery march ended on these steps. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1960.
