Lubljana. Slovenia

Bran Castle, Romania


This awesome and rather mystic view of Bran Castle, also known as Dracula's Castle was sent by Raluca for the WiP I spy a Tree swap. It is situated at the border to Transylvania and was built in the 14th century by the Saxons. An earlier, wooden structure was destroyed by the Mongols.

Bavarian Peasant, Ellis Island Immigration Station, NYC



This great postcard was sent by Ruth Smith for the WiP People Swap. It shows a Bavarian Peasant at Ellis Island Immigration Station in New York City. It was the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States from 1892 to 1954.

This great postcard of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, USA, was sent by Jackie Siears for the August Lottery Game. I love the colours and it truly made me a winner in this month's game :)

The Sun approaching Solar Maximum



This unusual and very interesting postcard came as a birthday gift from Ruth Smith :) It is named "The Secrets of the Sun" and shows three EIT images. From the back of the card: A comparison of three Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope images nearly 3 years apart illustrates how the level of solar activity has increased. The progression toward more active regions and the number and size of magnetic loops are unmistakable.

Inowroclaw. Poland


This is an official Postcrossing postcard sent by Tomek from Poland (PL-253081) and shows various buildings of Inowroclaw. The town was first mentioned in 1185.

Miyajima, The Shrine Island, Japan (UNESCO)


Another treasure coming from Rod Eime :) A traditional dancer at Itsukushima Shrine. The shrine is listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites (1996). The card has a fantastic rubber stamp along with a beautiful stamp, which makes it even better! Thanks Rod :)

Texel Mapcard. Netherlands




This card is not only a great addition to my mapcard collection, it also made me remember one of my very first holidays which was spent in the Netherlands. We went to Texel for one day during these holidays, what an adventure for a little girl :) I think I was about 6 years old back then.

Mir Castle, Belarus (UNESCO)


Great postcard sent by Lena (skliu) for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag. It shows UNESCO World Heritage Site Mir Castle, inscribed into the list in 2000.

Mikhailovsky Castle. Saint Petersburg (UNESCO)





Mikhailovsky Castle is a royal residence in the historic center of Saint Petersburg. It was built for Emperor Paul I in 1797-1801 and now houses a branch of the Russian Museum featuring the portrait gallery. The postcard was sent by Yana (botwa) for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag.

Alte Oper, Frankfurt (Old Opera) Germany



I fell in love with this postcard on first sight :) It shows the old Operahouse in Frankfurt. It opened its doors in 1880 and a lot of important works premiered at the Alte Oper including Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in 1937. These days it is used as a concert hall. The card was sent by Jana for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag.

The Three Towers of San Marino (UNESCO)


Great postcard of UNESCO Site San Marino sent by Marta (mahako) for the Postcrossing Favourites Tag. I was in San Marino first time as a kid with my parents, back then it was just one more place to see, I guess. About 20 years later I went back there, when on holidays in Italy and it totally captured me :) Wish to go back there soon. The historic center and Mount Titano were inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008

Did you know ... Henry Ford, Detroit

Györ, Hungary


This is an official Postcrossing card from Hungary, HU-39003 sent by Andi. It shows a street scene in Györ, the 6th largest city in Hungary. The first larte settlement in this place date back to 5th century BC and was inhabited by the Celts.
