We will never forget - May 28, 2010

1000th anniversary of Austria - May 28, 2010

In a deed of gift of November 1, 996, the name Austria appeared for the first time. This card commemorates the anniversary which was celebrated back in 1996. It shows some of the most famous royals. I fell in love with this card the moment I saw it. Of course I had to send one home :)

Queen Elisabeth of Hungary, Hofburg, Vienna - May 28, 2010

Another of the cards I sent from Vienna. Can you tell that I am a fan of Sisi? :) This shows Elisabeth as Queen of Hungary in her coronation outfit. It can be found in the imperial Appartments in the Hofburg of Vienna.

Bakhchisaray, Khan's Palace, Fountain of Tears - May 28, 2010


A card I received from Nina (Ninon) for the Postcrossing Big Groups Round Robin. Bakhchisaray is a town in Central Crimea, also known as the capital of the Crimean Khanate. The Palace is on the UNESCO Tentative List. There was an array of great stamps on the back, too !!!!

The Habsburg Dynasty - May 28, 2010


This card I sent myself while in Vienna. It shows the sovereigns of the Habsburg Dynasty. Among them are German and Austrian Emperors.

Elisabeth, Queen of Hungary - May 27, 2010

Elisabeth of Austria when she was crowned Queen of Hungary on June 8, 1867 at the age of 29. The coronation dress was on display in the Imperial Appartments in the Hofburg (city palace) of Vienna. Elisabeth was a very tiny person and to wear such an outfit must have been very stressful. I can only imagine the weight of all the finery!

This card I sent myself while being in Vienna. The original painting is by F.X. Winterhalter (1864), the favourite painting of Emperor Franz Josef.

7th National Congress, China - May 27, 2010

Coming from Zhong WenHua was this card today showing the 7th National Congress in China. Great card for the WiP Politics Swap! With matching stamps on the back, too !

1959 Cadillac Eldorado - May 21, 2010


The dramatic tail fins of the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado soared more than three feet above the ground. Equipped with extravagant features like leather interior and twin, bullet-style tail lights, the Eldorado - Spanish for "The Gilded One" - truly lived up to its name (taken from the back of the card)
It was sent by Michelle Darby for the WiP Transportation Swap with a matching stamp on the back, how awesome :)

Michelle Darby sent me this wonderful artwork by Paul Klee for the WiP May General Swap. Paul Klee was born in Switzerland but had a German father, so both countries are claiming him as theirs :) There was a stamp on the back that complimented the topic of the card, loved that!!!

Tania sent me this nice multiview from Tremelo in Belgium. I met Tania on Facebook and this postcard is part of a private swap we agreed upon :)

Wikipedia says: Tremelo is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant in Flanders. Tremelo is most famous for having been the hometown of Father Damien, who Pope Benedict XVI canonized on October 11, 2009 as Saint Damien of Molokai. Father Damien is locally known as Pater Damiaan, and was a legendary martyr of charity who had tended to the lepers in the Hawaiian Islands.
